Mr. Vik

Recreational Teacher and Competitive Choreographer

Vik Mudge is a dancer, choreographer, and instructor. Vik started dancing at the age of 7 at Expressions Dance Company, and quickly fell in love with dancing and performing. As a teenager, after several seasons of dancing competitively, Vik branched out into training with a street dance crew, and even found a passion for acting onstage.

During his time at Sheridan College pursuing visual and media arts, Vik struggled to leave dance and theatre behind, finding himself balancing school, contracts in stage management and a job as a demonstrator for a community ballet class.

Vik started teaching dance in 2020 and began pursuing dance as a full-time artist in 2022. He’s worked at multiple studios across Hamilton and Niagara, teaching and choreographing in various styles at both the competitive and recreational level, and is in the process of completing his Module 1 Certification with International Dance Teaching Standards.

Outside of the studio, Vik continues to pursue professional development through a mentorship with dance artist Sid Ryan Eilers (Aeris Körper) as well as through various workshops and creative residencies. Vik also spends his time managing his own contemporary dance collective retrograde: dance in motion alongside his artistic collaborator, Skye Rogers. As retrograde, the pair are cultivating a creative landscape rich in cross-pollination across Niagara and Hamilton through the creation and presentation of new dance work, community focused movement workshops, and professional training opportunities.

Vik’s melting pot of passions and experience creates a classroom environment where dance is explored in the context of society and through the lens of artistry. Students in Vik’s classes are challenged to work together to create a sense of community as well as to find confidence in themselves as unique individuals.
