EDC takes dance classes in Niagara to the next level! Offering a wide variety of styles, classes and levels for dancers of every age, we have the dance class for you, right here in Beamsville!

We take our roles as a mentors and teachers in your child’s life very seriously. It is our objective to inspire a passion for the art of dance in every child who passes through our doors. In the process, we strive to set the right example and help your child (and you) create memories that will last a lifetime.

PHILOSOPHY

EDC Dancers Inc. is committed to providing high-quality dance classes to enhance the overall development of the child. We provide a safe and child-centered environment to encourage our students to explore dance with qualified, nurturing teachers.

We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image as they increase awareness of their physical being. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the freedom to express themselves through movement.

The highest educational standards are expected from all EDC Dancers Inc. faculty members. They are lifelong learners who continue to educate themselves through certification programs, classes, workshops, teacher-training schools, conferences, and other learning opportunities.

EDC DANCERS INC. & NIAGARA BALLET – WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP?

A Brief History…
EDC Director, Mandy Wyrcimaga opened her studio doors back in 1997. It was after many years of dancing and training as well as assisting and teaching classes that her and her family moved to Beamsville – at that point in time she felt the need to open a local dance studio and wanted to offer her niece (who was 2 years old at the time) a place to dance! Having grown up in her Aunt’s dance studio and after many years of being at the studio each and every day for hours on end whether it was dancing herself or being around the dancers while her mother worked the office, Chelsea grew into a beautiful, passionate dancer who trained hard and worked vigorously to fulfil her dreams.

What is Niagara Ballet?
In 2017, after many years of dance and teacher training, Chelsea decided to fuel her passion and follow her dream as the Founder and Artistic Director of Niagara Ballet. Because Miss Chelsea grew up at EDC with her Aunt as the Director, EDC is home to Niagara Ballet. However, Niagara Ballet is a separate identity to EDC – it is NOT a dance studio and it is NOT EDC Dancers Inc. Niagara Ballet’s philosophy is to bring the Niagara dance community together offering workshops to local dancers and giving them the opportunity to grow and flourish through different, professional Ballet Instructors throughout the year while in addition to their regular dance training at their own dance studio. Niagara Ballet also presents an Annual Nutcracker Performance where dancers from the Niagara Region are welcome to audition and be a part of. The Workshops and Nutcracker Performance are all Directed by Niagara Ballet.

Niagara Ballet & The EDC Ballet Department….
As the home of Niagara Ballet, EDC is very proud and lucky to also have Miss Chelsea as our Ballet Director. All Ballet classes and Ballet levels as well as our entire Ballet Department at EDC Dancers Inc. is run by Chelsea and a division of EDC Dancers. This is for all dancers from Primary to Pre-Professional and also including our Vocational Ballet Dancers. Dancers wishing to compete in Ballet with EDC must attend a Ballet specific audition and become a member of the EDC Competitive Company. This is separate from Niagara Ballet. As a competitive Ballet dancer, you will attend Ballet competitions along with EDC Dancers. A select few dancers may be invited to attend Youth America Grand Prix with Niagara Ballet specifically. This is by invitation only and you will be entered under Niagara Ballet.

In Conclusion…
Our Ballet Department consists of beginner Ballet dancers through Pre-Professional. We have dancers who attend one class per week and dancers who dance every day for many hours. We are very proud of our Ballet Department and what it is becoming each and every year as we grow and improve to better suit our dancers. EDC will continue to offer you the BEST we can in Ballet training for the Niagara Region!

Right from the beginning we focus on your child’s coordination, listening skills, musical awareness, and developing imagination. We accomplish this through age-appropriate music and song, simple stretching exercises, and games in an environment of creativity. In addition to Ballet, we also incorporate simple tap-dance movement in our Tiny and Mini Dance Classes as well as the first steps in Jazz Dance and (as an added bonus) basic tumbling skills and floor mat work (acrobatics).
Preschool students perform one dance routine in our annual recital.

OTHER NOTES:
*Tap shoes should not have the ribbon tie, Dancewear Niagara sells Dance Ties. This helps the student to slip the shoe on in class and ribbons tend to come undone many times. Most tap shoes now come with an elastic already sewn in under the ribbon. Please get rid of the ribbon so the shoe slips on.
*Please tuck the “bunny ears” (the elastic on the ballet slipper) into the shoe when you put your son/daughter’s shoes on prior to class.
*Students bring all three pairs of shoes to each class, beginning first with Ballet. Please have all shoes in a bag that the student will bring into the classroom. The Instructor and Assistant will then assist the dancers in changing their shoes during class.
*Please remember to include your son/daughter’s name in ALL shoes, bags and belongings. If shoes are left behind at the studio or accidentally end up in another student’s bag this will help determine the owner.

TAP The class length is 45min once a week from September – June (10 months)

The below classes are offered in 6 Week Sessions throughout the dance season (September – June)

BELLY DANCING
The class length is 60min once a week in 6 Week Sessions
The Belly Dance is identified by swaying hips, undulating torso, and articulated isolations employed in a range of dynamic and emotional expressions. Characteristic movements in the dance include curving patterns, undulations, thrusts, lifts, locks, and drops, and shaking or quaking body movements. The focus is on isolated movements of individual parts of the body with little notice given to the footsteps. Arms and hands move fluidly, like serpents or ribbons in the air. Unusual strength and control is demonstrated in the belly area accents using “pop and lock” where a dancer either shimmies or makes a striking motion in her shoulders or hips are common, as are feats of flexibility, rolling one’s stomach muscles, balancing various props like baskets, swords, or canes, and dancing with chiffon or silk veils. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellydance)
DRESS CODE/UNIFORM:
Cool, comfortable clothing, not too loose or baggy. Bare Feet.
*Belly Dancing belts and accessories are optional and will be discussed in class. * Mat (if required)

ZUMBA CLASSES The class length is 60min once a week
The Zumba workout provides fitness benefits because its routines feature interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training, which are intended to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat.Music is the key ingredient to Zumba classes. The score, created with specific beats and tempo changes, transitions the workout from one toning, strengthening or cardio move to another, thus targeting every major muscle group in the body. The Zumba program borrows Latin flavor from the following dance styles: Cumbia, Salsa,  Merengue, Mambo, Flamenco, Chachacha, Reggaeton, Samba, Belly Dancing, Bhangra, Hip-Hop and Tango. (en,wikipedia.org/wiki/Zumba)

HIP-HOP The class length is 45min once a week in 6 Week Sessions
